A beautiful and friendly Thai island, located on the Andaman Sea, in the South West of Thailand. Koh Lanta is easy to reach, being only a few hours from Phuket, Phi Phi, Trang and Krabi and accessible by both passenger ferry and car.
Koh Lanta is the largest islands within the National Park of Koh Lanta an archipelago which includes of over 50 islands many of which are uninhabited.
Koh Lanta itself, comprises of 2 islands Koh Lanta Noi and Koh Lanta Yai. Sea Gypsies were the original inhabitants of these islands and still live in the South of the larger island. Most tourists head for Koh Lanta Yai, the furthest west and largest of the 2, where many resorts are located along the west coast where the best beaches are located. These beaches offer beautiful sandy beaches, clear, warm waters and stunning sunsets.
Koh Lanta has managed to retain much of its original charm and is far less commercial than many other Thai destinations. There is definitely a far more laid back approach to life on Koh Lanta and many tourists find it difficult to leave.
With over 26km of beach on its west coast, Koh Lanta is able to offer accommodation to suit everyone including; romantic getaways, family holidays and backpacker huts on the beach (Hotels & Resorts). Cool drinks are available from beach bars during the day and by night there are plenty of bars and restaurants, both Thai and European, to suit every pocket.
There are over 10 beaches on Koh Lanta Yai and each one is different, from Long Beach (Phrae Ae), a 3km stretch offer a beautiful coastline and plenty of beach bars, to Kantiang Beach, a stunning secluded beach in the south of the island.
Koh Lanta is ideal for both novices and experienced SCUBA divers as the diving in the Andaman Sea is warm, clear and conditions are good. Koh Haa, to the West of Koh Lanta offers a beautiful lagoon for beginners and snorkelling whilst there are caverns and swimthroughs for the more experienced. Hin Daeng and Hin Muang located far south are World Class destination sites offering the opportunity to see large pelagics.
